Bus Driver in Fatal Pocono Crash Identified

Alfredo Telemaco, 54, died instantly, according to PA State Police. He was driving a bus of Italian tourists en route to Niagara Falls.

One of three victims of Wednesday’s bus crash in the Poconos has been identified, as authorities continue their investigation into why the charter carrying Italian tourists crashed on its way to Niagara Falls.

Alfredo Telemaco, 54, of New York, was driving the bus and died instantly, according to Pennsylvania State Police. The bus company, Academy, said that Telemaco had more than a decade of experience driving.

The other two victims that were killed have not been identified, but they were both Italians that were on the bus, and WNEP believes they are male.

Of the 15 individuals injured, eight were treated and released by Pocono Health System on Wednesday. Seven remain in the hospital, and four are in critical condition.

According to authorities, a tractor trailer crossed the median on I-380 at about 10 a.m., crashing head-on into the bus.

The driver of the tractor trailer has been identified as Franklin Wyatt of Oklahoma, according to state police. He suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital and released.

It is not known what caused the tractor trailer to cross the median and hit the charter bus. State police are investigating the crash. Charges are pending in the incident, according to the Monroe County Coroner.
