Driver In Fatal Horsham Accident Pleads Not Guilty To DUI

The Souderton man allegedly ran a red light and cut in front of an incoming tractor-trailer, which was unable to stop in time, the DA said.

HORSHAM, PA -- A Souderton man who was allegedly drunk driving when he crashed on December 27, killing his friend, has pleaded not guilty.

Corey Adam Mitchell, 26, has been charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI for the death of Erik Detweiler, 25, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.

Horsham police responded to the incident at 2:12 a.m. at the intersection of County Line Road and Easton Road in Warrington.

Mitchell was allegedly driving northbound on Easton Road when he entered the left turn lane to turn left onto County Line Road, investigators said. His headlights were turned off.

Mitchell waived his preliminary hearing and his case will head to trial, according to court records..

Even though the light was red, Mitchell tried to turn onto County Line, cutting in front of an incoming tractor-trailer which was unable to stop in time, according to the DA.

Mitchell’s blood alcohol concentration was .154% and there was also marijuana in his system, the DA said.

Detweiler, who had been living in California, was home visiting his family in Quakertown.
