Fire Marshal Warns Residents About Pushing Snow Into Hatboro Streets

Hatboro Fire Marshal Kate Valesky said the borough has received numerous complaints about snow issues following the weekend storm.

HATBORO, PA — The borough's fire marshal is warning residents about pushing snow from this weekend's storm into the streets.

Fire Marshal Kate Valesky said that the borough has received an "influx of complaints" from residents and contractors about pushing snow into the streets.

The fire marshal said the action violates a borough ordinance.

"Please do not throw snow back into the streets," the fire marshal said. "We understand that there are not a lot of places to put the snow, and it may happen a little bit, but plowing entire rows of snow into the street, or snow blowing an entire sidewalks' worth of snow into the street is not only a violation but also dangerous."

Valesky offered a reminder to residents and business owners about the requirements of the ordinance:

  • Sidewalks, fire hydrants, handicap ramps, and curb cuts to be cleared of snow and ice within 24 hours of the end of snowfall.
  • Snow may not be dumped or pushed into roadways, onto sidewalks, or piled around fire hydrants.

"These measures help keep our community safe and accessible for pedestrians, emergency responders, and public works crews," the fire marshal said.

Any property not in compliance will be cited.
