Hatboro-Horsham Students Video Chat with Mexican Peers

Fourth-grade students at and spent part of their Monday afternoon videoconferencing with a class of fourth-graders over 2,000 miles away in Mexico City.

The program is part Hatboro-Horsham students' global perspective curriculum, according to Katy Krupa, technology integration specialist at the district.

Elementary school students district-wide are using multiple technology tools, like Google Earth, to learn more about different countries. Today's video chat with the students at Carol Baur school in Mexico was an extension of learning that has been occurring all year, Krupa said.

During the chat, which lasted for more than an hour, students presented information on their school and the surrounding area. They also were afforded the opportunity to ask question about how their lives differ.

In the coming school year, the district plans to expand it's online global perspective video conferences, Krupa said.

While Krupa ran the Crooked Billet part of the chat, district technology integration staffer Carmela Curatola Knowles coordianted a portion of the chat from Blair Mill.
