Horsham Police, Acme Stuff Cop Cars For Hunger: PHOTOS

The day helped collect breakfast, lunch and snack foods for local students and their siblings facing food insecurity.

HORSHAM, PA — On Saturday, the Horsham Township Police Department teamed up with Acme to fight childhood hunger in the area.

The "Stuff the Police Car" event raised much-needed donations for Hatboro-Horsham based H.A.T. Packs.

Helping Around Town (H.A.T.) partners with public schools, community groups, houses of worship, businesses and others to help fill weekend "hunger gaps" for children. The H.A.T. Packs program provides packs filled with non-perishable breakfast, lunch, snack and beverage items to school children and their siblings who face food insecurity.

With the community's support, more than seven cop cars full of food were collected and dropped off at the H.A.T Pack packing center in Hatboro on Saturday.

"We are blessed in Horsham with a lot of great people who want to support their community," Police Chief John Clark. "Our police officers were humbled with the outpouring of giving from our Horsham residents and the surrounding community, and I’d like to give a big thank you to Acme and their assistance with making this a successful first event."

During the school week, about 30% of Hatboro-Horsham school children benefit from the free and reduced priced meal program. The H.A.T. program targets those same students when school is out.

"This gift will have a tremendous impact on our program,' said H.A.T. Packs co-founders Patsy Meck, DJ Schultz and Erin McCuen Pease in a written statement. "We’d like to thank the Horsham Acme store for selecting us as their charity partner and supporting our efforts to fight hunger."
