On Sept. 12 and 13, students from those schools celebrated the Star Spangled Banner’s 200th birthday.

During the celebration, students learned about the history of the National Anthem, sang the anthem and recreated the original flag with 15 stars and 15 stripes. Students also attended the Camden Riversharks game to sing the National Anthem.

“The human flags took shape as students lined up in colored shirts and teachers held large stars,” according to a post on Patch’s Bulletin Board.

The day-day event was organized by music teacher Jessica Welch. “I wanted students to have an understanding of what the words to the Star Spangled Banner mean,” she said.

Welch said students enjoyed meeting with the people who played a key role in an historical event. “We were able to bring history to life,” Welch said.
