The chemicals found on the Naval Air Station Willow Grove were perfluorinated compounds, including perfluorooctane sulfonoate (PFOS) and perfluoroctanoic acid (PFOA). It is believed many of the chemicals originally came from firefighting training on the base property.

Horsham Township is working to reduce levels of the chemicals in the township's drinking water. Horsham's Aqua PA well has since been taken offline.
