Major Winter Storm Preparation Urged In Horsham

Horsham ChATs is offering residents preparation tips before the storm hits the Philadelphia region this weekend.

HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — Horsham Community Police Services is urging residents not to wait for the snow to fall this weekend.

With a major winter storm expected to pound the Philadelphia region over the weekend, Horsham ChATs said that residents should get prepared as soon as possible.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the entire Philadelphia region starting Saturday night and going through Monday afternoon.

Forecasters say they currently expect 10 inches of snow on the low end, but there is a possibility for some parts of the Philadelphia area to get 24 inches or more.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J., said in a Thursday morning briefing they are now confident that the region has up to a 90 percent chance of seeing "major" impacts from this weather event.

"Now is the time for you to prepare," Horsham ChATs said. "Don't wait until the Saturday night. Plan for possible travel impact (road, rail, and airport closures) from Sunday into Tuesday. Plan for possible extended power outages due to downed wires. All these things are probable if we experience a double-digit snowfall.

Horsham ChATs provided preparation ideas from the National Weather Service for residents to ensure that they are ready for the snow and ice.
