HATBORO, PA —Bob Ross has been busy.

For the past four months, Ross has been working inside the building at 58 S. York Rd. to transform it from the shuttered Bernie's Restaurant & Bar into the new Ross & Co. —Kitchen, Taps, Cocktails.

Ross signed a lease for the building in mid-November and immediately began making changes. He hoped to open the new eatery by the end of February. But work has taken much longer than he anticipated.

"The place was a freaking disaster and that’s being nice," Ross recently told Patch. "I've finished cleaning out the dirtiest restaurant that I have ever seen."

Ross knows a thing about restaurants.

He has more than 45 years in the restaurant business, including 19 years with TGIF.

Ross took over the GypsyBlu Amber location in June 2020 during the pandemic and has the business thriving, winning numerous Best of Montgomery County restaurant awards.

For the new borough business, Ross said the contractor has wrapped up work, "putting it back together." He said that furniture has also been ordered.

Ross said that the menu will be similar to GypsyBlu, which serves upscale, casual American fare and is known for specialty cocktails and an extensive wine list.

Now comes the next step: Getting a liquor license.

Ross will appear before the Hatboro Borough Council at its meeting on Monday to seek the liquor license.

Bernie's closure came just after a raid by state authorities last year for a liquor license violation.
