State Rep. Cerrato Serving As DNC Delegate

HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —State Rep. Melissa Cerrato is taking a trip this weekend.

No, she's not going on a summer vacation before her kids go back to school. Cerrato is going to Chicago.

Cerrato serves 64,000 constituents in Horsham Township, Ambler, Upper Dublin Township, and Montgomery Township.

But starting Sunday, she will be one of seven chosen as a delegate in the PA 4th Congressional District. Cerrato will be on hand to watch the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

That's where Vice President Kamala Harris will officially accept her party's nomination after replacing President Joseph Biden at the top of the Democratic party ticket.

Cerrato was elected during the April primary election as a Biden delegate.

But then she was released as a delegate when Biden dropped out of the presidential race and later came back as a delegate supporting Harris.

"We've all gotten behind Kalama," said the Democratic legislator who is running for re-election in November. "We are instantly moving forward. There's real hope and energy."

Cerrato's sister is also the chief of staff for the governor of Illinois. And with another sister coming in, Cerrato said it would be a family reunion of sorts.

The Democratic National Convention is expected to feature Biden, former President Bill Clinton, former First Lady Hillary Clinton, and former President Barack Obama.

While Cerrato is thrilled to be a part of the process, this isn't her first rodeo.

She attended the convention in 2016 for a day when it was in Philadelphia. She can't wait to spend several days in Chicago.

"I'm excited. It's going to be great and a lot of fun," Cerrato told Patch Thursday.
