Lost in the Spaghetti Sauce aisle

In 1992, ConAgra launched a delicious sauce "Healthy Choice." Circa 2000 or so, it was summarily discontinued. I have a copycat recipe!

Healthy Choice Copycat Spaghetti Sauce (for better or worse) by Linda Spreeman

  • Can of 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • Small amount of water in can to get all crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dried minced onion
  • 4-5 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper (or to taste)

Combine ingredients in saucepan and bring to boil. Simmer on low for 1-2 hours. If sauce is too watery, add tomato paste to thicken.
