Love Story Rooted in Memory Care Community Highlights the Impact of Senior Living Professionals
Pennsylvania couple's story illustrates the lasting relationships formed in senior living and supports national #ILoveSeniorLiving movement
A love story that began during one family’s most difficult days is helping shine a light on the powerful relationships formed every day in senior living communities.
Argentum is highlighting the story of J.R. Adams and Shannon Mullen, a life enrichment assistant at Arden Courts of King of Prussia, as part of its national I Love Senior Living movement which celebrates the people and relationships that demonstrate the impact of senior living professionals.
J.R. met Shannon while his father, Ricky, was living with early-onset Alzheimer’s in memory care. As a member of the life enrichment team, Shannon had developed a close bond with Ricky and helped comfort him during his final days on hospice. After Ricky died, J.R. and Shannon stayed in touch. Their friendship later became a relationship, and the couple is now planning their wedding.

“I’ll always believe Shannon was my dad’s last, and greatest, gift to me,” J.R. said.
At Arden Courts of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, Shannon helps plan activities and engagement programs for residents living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Ricky’s experience also inspired J.R. to pursue a career in hospice, where he now supports families facing end-of-life decisions and works to address misconceptions about hospice care.

Their story reflects the purpose of Argentum’s I Love Senior Living movement: to show how senior living professionals build relationships that can have a lasting impact on residents and families.
“Senior living professionals don’t just care for residents,” J.R. said. “They become part of the stories and families they touch.”
