📰 News we're reading

1. Plan ahead: Road closures scheduled during Sunday's Wyoming Valley Run (citizensvoice.com) — If you’ll be driving through Kingston on Sunday morning, expect significant lane closures along Wyoming Avenue and Market Street as the 10-mile Wyoming Valley Run passes through town between roughly 8:15 and 11 a.m. Organizers outline a mile-by-mile schedule of restrictions from Pittston into Kingston and over the Market Street Bridge to Wilkes-Barre, so residents can plan alternate routes and avoid delays.

2. Luzerne County court notes: Property transfers 9/5/26 (citizensvoice.com) — Several Kingston properties changed hands recently, including sales recorded at $312,500 and $279,000, offering a snapshot of current local real estate values. The full list of Luzerne County transfers from late August shows how prices in Kingston compare with nearby townships and cities, useful if you’re watching the market or considering a move.

3. Referendum petition to repeal Luzerne County anti-discrimination law is contested over deficiencies (citizensvoice.com) — Luzerne County’s new anti-discrimination law is on hold while a challenge argues that nearly 9,000 signatures on a repeal petition are invalid, and Kingston resident Melissa Rivers is among those contesting it. The election board will now review alleged signature problems and claims that some petition circulators misled voters, potentially deciding whether the repeal question reaches the ballot.

4. Volunteers in Medicine of Wilkes-Barre receives 2026 Dr. Jack McConnell Circle of Caring Award from NAFC (timesleader.com) — A Kingston reception at Kevin’s Restaurant celebrated Volunteers in Medicine of Wilkes-Barre receiving a national Circle of Caring Award for nearly two decades of free healthcare to Luzerne County’s uninsured residents. Local volunteers and staff shared how the clinic’s medical, dental, behavioral health, and support services, all offered at no cost to qualifying patients, are filling critical gaps for hardworking neighbors who can’t afford care elsewhere.

5. Hoegen brings 'family energy' to Osterhout Library (timesleader.com) — Kingston resident Molly McLaughlin Hoegen, affectionately known as “YaYa” to her grandkids, has turned years of family visits to the Osterhout Free Library into deep volunteer leadership. From board president to gala co-chair, she and her husband Frank were honored with the library’s Evergreen Award for long-running support of local schools, youth programs, and nonprofits across the Wyoming Valley.
