1. Lancaster Airport Retires Beacon That Guided Pilots For 90 Years (aero-news.net) — Lancaster Airport has retired its 90-year-old rotating beacon as part of a broader upgrade to modern LED navigational lighting, improving visibility for pilots up to about 40 miles away. The historic, orange-painted beacon is now in storage, with plans to eventually display it in the passenger terminal once building renovations are complete, preserving a piece of local aviation history.
   

2. Wednesday Traffic Faces a Tight Squeeze on East King Street (mychesco.com) — Drivers in Lancaster should expect a tight squeeze on eastbound Route 462 (East King Street) at the Conestoga River bridge this Wednesday, September 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., due to a bridge inspection. The right lane and shoulder will be closed at the Lancaster–East Lampeter Township line, so plan extra travel time, watch for work-zone signs, and use caution near crews.
   

3. Lancaster County bankruptcies: Sept. 6, 2026 (lancasteronline.com) — Lancaster County residents can see who recently filed for bankruptcy locally, with several Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases from communities like Manheim, Columbia, and Leola recorded in late August. The listing, drawn from U.S. Bankruptcy Court records, also briefly explains what different bankruptcy chapters mean for debtors and creditors.
   

4. EF-1 tornado ripped roof off of barn in Lancaster County: NWS (local21news.com) — Lancaster County saw yet another tornado this summer, with an EF-1 twister Tuesday night ripping roofs from barns and a one-room schoolhouse in Salisbury Township and scattering debris near Old Road Mennonite Church. The storm, with 90 mph winds over a 1.08-mile path, marks the county’s fourth tornado this season and adds to a busy year for central Pennsylvania.
   

5. Lancaster native charged after attempting to stab ex-partner with pocketknife: police (local21news.com) — A Lancaster native has been charged after allegedly lunging at an ex-partner with a pocketknife during an August 31 incident on West Main Street, according to Ephrata police. The 26-year-old was arraigned on simple assault and terroristic threat charges, released on $10,000 bail, and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on September 14.
