$1.5 Million Roundabout Project Begins On Old Skippack Road

A round the clock road closure will be in place until work is done, causing delays in the area, officials said.

UPPER SALFORD, PA — Construction on a new roundabout in Upper Salford Township will get underway this spring, leading to extended road closures and delays in the area, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation .

The work will take place at the intersection of Old Skippack Road and Schwenksville Road/Shelly Road.

A round the clock road closure will be in place on Schwenksville Road from March 6 through April 30, and on Old Skippack Road from May 1 through July 13.

The $1.5 million project will include a single lane roundabout, new drainage infrastructure, and lighting at the roundabout.

"The purpose of the project is to reduce angle crashes and vehicular speeds, increase sight distance, and improve congestion through the intersection," PennDOT said in an announcement.

Local access will be maintained up to the work zone, but all other traffic will be detoured to Route 63 and Route 113.

The project is fully federally funded and has been contracted to Allan Myers of Worcester.
