476 Reopens After Major Crash

The Northeast Extension was shut down in both directions for several hours after a major accident amidst rush hour Thursday.

The Northeast Extension was shut down in both directions for several hours after a major accident amidst rush hour Thursday.

The incident occurred in Milford Township at milepost 43.6 near the Quakertown exit at around 5 p.m.

Lanes began opening slowly about an hour later, and all lanes were reopened by 9:30 p.m.

The accident involved an overturned tractor trailer, officials said. It backed up traffic for as far as the eye could see in both directions.

No injuries were reported.

A detour was in place for motorists heading both northbound and southbound between Exit 31 at Lansdale and Exit 44 at Quakertown.

The southbound detour takes motorists from PA 663 north to PA 309 south, US 202 south, and PA 63 west back to the Lansdale interchange.

The northbound detour ran from PA 63 east to US 202 north, PA 309 north, and PA 663 south to the Quakertown interchange.
