6-Vehicle Crash In Hatfield Tuesday Left Driver Trapped

A car veered head-on into traffic on Bethlehem Pike for unknown reasons, hitting five other vehicles, police said.

HATFIELD, PA — A major accident involving six vehicles on Bethlehem Pike Tuesday morning left a driver trapped and snarled traffic in the area. One victim was hospitalized.

The incident occurred at around 8:44 a.m. near the intersection with Sterling Drive.

A gold Kia Sorrento veered into the southbound lanes as it traveled north through that intersection, police said. It's not clear what caused the driver to head into opposing traffic.

The Kia ultimately struck five vehicles before coming to a rest. The driver of the Kia was trapped, and had to be rescued by first responders. The driver suffered intenral injuries and leg injuries and was taken by JeffStat helicopter to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia for treatment.

Hatfield Police were assisted by Hilltown Police, Hatfield Fire, VMSC, JeffStat, Hilltown Fire, and Souderton Fire Police on the scene.
