LANSDALE, PA — Rehabilitation of the Historic Reading Freight House in Lansdale will be completed thanks to a $250,000 grant from Montgomery County, officials announced recently.
Discover Lansdale purchased the property in 2016, saving it from demolition and preserving a vital piece of the region's industrial shipping history.
But the stone structure, built in 1902, required extensive work to realize the vision of the new owners.
The funds will help completion of a planned welcome center, an ADA accessible front entrance, additional interior renovations, and window and door restoration.
It will also help build a public courtyard with outdoor amenities that can be accessed even when the building is closed.
The money comes from the Montco 2040 program, which provided $2.75 million to 16 select projects across the county. Projects were chosen for need for how they supported larger county goals of connecting communities, sustainability, and supporting the local economy.
