April 8, 2017 (Palm/Passion Sunday Eve) The Choristers will sing Bach’s St. Matthew Passion.

Tenor George Somerville will sing the role of Evangelist. Bass Frank Mitchell will sing the role of Jesus.

In the acoustically magnificent Trinity Lutheran Church (Lansdale, PA), The Choristers will present Bach’s St.
Matthew Passion—accompanied by a 32-piece professional orchestra under the direction of Founder & Artist Director David M. Spitko.

The St. Matthew Passion is a sacred oratorio written by Johann Sebastian Bach in 1727 for solo voices, double choir and double orchestra, with libretto by Christian Friedrich Henrici. It sets chapters 26 & 27 of the Gospel of Matthew to music, with interspersed chorales and arias. It is widely regarded as one of the masterpieces of classical sacred music. The original Latin title Passio Domini nostri J.C. secundum Evangelistam Matthæum translates to "The Passion of our Lord J[esus] C[hrist] according to the Evangelist Matthew".

Tenor George Somerville will sing the role of Evangelist. Bass Frank Mitchell will sing the role of Jesus. The voices of the Pennsylvania Youth Chorale will soar above the double choirs. Soloists include: Carole Latimer, Soprano, Suzanne DuPlantis, Mezzo, Lawrence Jones, Tenor, & Mark Hightower, Bass.
