BLOG: The Four Hour Workweek: Livingroom University

Livingroom University blog series book study: The Four Hour Workweek. Time =Life, Therefore, waste your time and waste your life, or master your time and master your life. ~ Alan Lakein

This book is a great concept, and really opened my eyes to the idea of lifestyle design. In summation, Tim Ferris, (author) created a lifestyle with his business and job by outsourcing his tedious labor over seas, and spending large amounts of time traveling the world, and experiencing everything life has to offer.

He gives various examples of professionals, and business owners who outsource their non essential labor that eats time. Here is the outsourcing methodology. You can have a company  overseas assign you an individual or “personal assistant” who will answer emails, letters, gather information, do research and more. All for about $4.00 an hour. If I make $55.00 an hour, outsourcing this stuff to free time might be a great plan. But as a low level general laborer, this approach was crap for me, there was nothing I could do with outsourcing.

However, Ferriss’s concept of working less to enjoy more of life was the most intriguing part, and certainly made me re-evaluate my goals and philosophy.

An interesting question Ferriss asks is, “What do you do with extra time?” If you could earn the same salary every week, but in only 32 hours time, what do you do with the extra 8 hours you now have during the week?  Seriously, think about that, 8 extra hours a week. Do you travel?  Find another hobby. Spend more time with the family? Doing what? The possibilities are endless.

So begins my pursuit of more time. This philosophy of creating more time, while increasing my income has become an obsession of mine. Not just utilizing my time to my advantage, but becoming a master of it. My goal with Livingroom University evolves everyday. From the pursuit of a stronger philosophy, to the mastery of my time. Hopefully what I learn, will help you master time, attitude or something greater in your life as well.
