Do You See It?

Think good thoughts. Don't dwell on the negative. Tell yourself "I can" instead of "I can't". Stop saying "This is going to be hard", welcome the opportunity to be challenged.

What good would Livingroom University be if I did not give you some insight to a few chapters in Napoleon Hill’s Think And Grow Rich.

The term Autosuggestion was defined in Hill’s book Think And Grow Rich as “The agency of control through which an individual may voluntarily feed his subconscious mind on thoughts of a creative nature, or, by neglect, permit thoughts of a destructive nature to find there way into his rich garden of the mind.”

Commonly said on posters and cards “What you think about you bring about, Thoughts are Things” are a few I’ve often seen.

Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret claimed this was a powerful tool hidden for generations by the wealthy and greedy. It is in-fact actually very simple and was written about in great detail before “The Secret” revealed it to the masses. This “secret” can be summed up rather easily, and I’m sure many of us know it, but fail to apply it.

Think good thoughts. Don’t dwell on the negative. Tell yourself “I can” instead of “I can’t”. Stop saying “This is going to be hard”, welcome the opportunity to be challenged. See yourself as a success in everything you do. Envision success in your mind, feel it. Desire it. There’s nothing you can not conquer in this world. And if you fail, guess what, try again.

There you go. That’s the big secret.

In the fitness world I meet people all the time who have excuses for everything. “This is too difficult, I can’t do that, That’s a lot of work.” I don’t want to hear why you can’t. Shut up and do it. That goes for everything, a weight loss journey, new business adventure, any desired goal. See yourself as already obtaining it.

Only the flip side is negativity. Keep negative thoughts out, stay away from the horror that is the evening news. As a matter of fact stay away from most news. If it’s that important, you’ll hear about it. I have found by filtering my news via my smartphone, I have less tendency to be bogged down by the news of some new pervert destroying a child’s life , murder, arson, war and so forth. I’m not being naive, I know the world is filled with scum bags. However, I don’t need jerky news anchor blasting me with it.

My father has spent his entire life mired in a whirlwind of negativity. If it could go wrong it did. Everything was a disaster or a hassle in his eyes. His constant negativity consumed him. It has only been later in life that I realize how this behavior has affected him. He had very little joy in life. He has admitted many times, life never went the way he thought it would. I ask him “How did you want it to go?” He really can’t give me a clear answer.

Think about the good things in life. Keep it simple, and don’t dwell on things you can’t control.

“See the things you want as already yours. Know that they will come you at need. Then let them come. Don’t fret and worry about them. Don’t think about your lack of them. Think of them as yours, as belonging to you, as already in your possession.” ~ Robert Collier
