Eczema is the most frequent skin issue we see on a daily basis. My son was born with severe eczema and he is the reason for Green Street Luxuries existence. I did not want prescription drugs on my infant son’s skin. So, the adventure began to cure his eczema without drugs. 21 years ago there was no such thing on the market! What is eczema?
Eczema is a chronic skin condition in which the skin becomes itchy, reddened, cracked and extremely dry. Approximately 80% of eczema cases start before the age of 5, and a sizeable number develops it during their first year of life. Most patients with eczema will also have allergies and at some point in their lives develop asthma. Experts say that people with eczema are born with it - it is a genetically inherited condition. It can be worsened with exposure to external or environmental factors such as pollen or pet fur, and internal factors such as food allergies, hormone levels and stress.

The oily (lipid) barrier of skin is usually reduced in people with eczema, compared to other people. The lipid barrier helps prevent water loss. If your barrier is reduced you will lose water faster and your skin will be drier. It makes perfect sense to keep the skin moisturized. Long showers, baths, swimming are extremely drying of the skin.
How is your skin after a hot shower, feels dry? A person with eczema it can be painful. Shorter baths as well as less baths per week will help. Using good moisturizing creams with essential ingredients for dry skin is imperative to the relief of eczema.

The most common allergens for eczema are: house dust mites, pollen & per fur.
About 10% of children with eczema are affected by food allergens, the most common are: Milk, eggs, nuts, soy and wheat.
Hormone & mental stress are also triggers of eczema.
To confirm a eczema diagnosis, the criteria include:
- A long period with itchy skin (12 months or longer)
- Itching & irritation in skin creases, such as the front of elbows, behind knees, front of ankles, around neck and/or eyes and is present around joints or parts of the body that flex
- Asthma or hay fever or has had them in the past
Common Symptoms include:
- Broken Skin, cracked skin, dry skin, itchy skin scratched raw, itchy skin worse at night, red and inflamed skin, inflamed skin developed blisters and weep or ooze liquid, skin has red to brownish color patches or skin have small raised bumps.
