The Truth about Liz Troy
Richard Strahm is running for a seat on Lansdale Borough Council. And he has something to say about his opponent's scare tactic mailers.
If you have a mailbox, I’m sure you’ve been seeing a lot from Liz Troy talking about Lansdale’s runaway taxes. But here’s an interesting fact for you. Liz Troy has never had her local taxes increased.
Not once.
How could that be possible, you may ask. Well, that’s an easy one to answer.

Liz has lived in Lansdale for a shade over one year. So she is enjoying our no-tax-increase 2013. She lived here a good chunk of our no-tax-increase 2012. But before that, she lived in another community. So how many times has she seen local taxes increase in Lansdale?
Never.

The truth is, her taxes have not gone up one penny. So when she says she believes “Lansdale Borough Council has been too fast to raise taxes and fees” she certainly is not saying that from any personal experience.
So let’s look at her short time here. A few months after she moved in, she made a $1,000 donation to the “Friends of Lansdale” PAC run by Jack Hansen. You might note that her donation is more than twice her annual local taxes. And then some months after that, she is the “Friends of Lansdale” candidate for borough council.
It’s interesting that her scare tactic mailers where she is pictured running with Leon Angelicho are the exact same mailers Ward One residents received – just with Joe Wolf and Jeff Howard’s faces and names on them. This should tell you something important – there’s someone talking for those four. It’s just not one of them.
So while you hear someone’s voice with Liz’s picture, ask yourself what has Liz done for our community in the short time she’s been here? Has she volunteered to be on a borough committee or commission?
No.
Has she gotten involved with one of the civic groups that help promote and organize Lansdale events or enhance the livability of our town?
No.
When it comes to that last item, the one place where I found Liz speaking in her own voice, she wrote, “I won’t need my nose in the air or my name attached to a high-profile nonprofit organization.”
Perhaps in time she will learn to love our borough and see the amazing strides we have taken over the last few years. When she says, “Main Street is the heart of Lansdale but it’s been neglected by Council,” it’s a shame to realize she doesn’t know about the street-scaping project that has beautified our Main Street, or the scores of businesses that have set up shop on Main Street over the past few years.
Perhaps Liz just needs to settle into her new hometown a bit more.
I’m Richard Strahm and I’m running for a Ward 3 borough council seat like Liz is. But I am bringing years of experience and hundreds of volunteer hours actually helping our borough. For the last two years I have been the vice-chair of the Economic Development Committee. I am on both the business improvement district and 311 West Main steering committees. I am a founding board member of Discover Lansdale – the volunteer non-profit group that brings you Frist Fridays, Founders Day, fireworks, Main Street planters and more.
I’m looking to build on the successes we’ve had over the past few years – all while making sure that Lansdale remains the Montgomery County municipality with one of the lowest local tax rates.
On May 21st, make the right choice. Vote for experience and action. Vote for Richard Strahm.
