Cellhelmet: Break Your iPhone In It, Get Another Free

A company called Cellpig has a new iPhone protective case called Cellhelmet - and if you drop your iPhone 4 or 4S, and it breaks, Cellpig will replace if for free.

According to a Mashable article, Cellpig and its concept began as a Kickstarter project. Cases are not available for retail sale. A spokesman for Cellhelmet said over the next two weeks they will be pushing up to various retailers across Pennsylvania.

Even jailbroken phones are covered under Cellpig's promise. According to its website, Cellhelmet includes accidental damage coverage, new, used and unlocked iPhones are covered too.

It will not cover water-damaged iPhones, unfortunately.

The case is backed by a New York-based administrator of product warranty and extended service contract programs. Cellpig claims it is the only case on the market that offers damage coverage on the case and the phone inside.

However, the coverage isn't free. You pay $45 for one year of service for the Cellhelment and the coverage, and no monthly fee.

If Cellpig can't repair the iPhone, they replace it for free. You would need to re-up your coverage with Cellpig too. You also pay a $50 handling fee to send the phone to Cellpig. The company claims to repair it and send it back within three days at its expense.

According to Mashable, Apple offers AppleCare+ for new iPhones at a cost of $99. AppleCare+ also replaces a broken phone up to two times due to mishandling. 

While it is a better option, Cellhelmet, according to Mashable, will appeal to users who still have their phone when AppleCare runs out or who did not get coverage when they purchased their iPhone. AppleCare will also be void for anyone who has jailbroken their iPhone.
