Clean and Green Part 4: The Rest of the Story

So far, I’ve written about recycling electronics, turning in unneeded prescription/over-the-counter drugs, and shredding sensitive documents to protect your identity, but these are only part of the upcoming Clean and Green Extravaganza.  When Lansdale Library started our clean and green event three years ago, we dubbed it an Extravaganza because of the amount and variety of components that make up the event.  Each piece that makes up the extravaganza was at one time an individual fund raising event at the library, but we felt it would be more efficient and more fun to hold all of them at once.  Last year, we were fortunate to have the Lansdale Farmers’ Market and Lansdale Borough Police Department join us.  This year we are grateful to have two sponsors supporting our efforts. Whole Foods Market of North Wales and Wisler Pearlstine, LLP.

Here's the rundown on what's happening at the Clean and Green Extravaganza this Saturday from 9am - 1pm.  There will be a car wash in front of the library. We can clean/repair your CDs/DVDs on Saturday or anytime for $2 per disc at the library. A bake sale to benefit the library will be held at the Lansdale Farmers Market. We will have our used book sale set up at the library.  Included in the book sale are jigsaw puzzles, movies, and music. We are always accepting donations of used books as well.  You can always recycle junk mail, newspapers, and magazines in the Paper Retriever dumpsters located in the corner of the parking lot across from the library on Susquehanna Ave and Vine St.

New this year, we will be collecting sneakers, worn-out clothing and linens, and household batteries at the library.  They will be broken down and repurposed as playground mulch, insulation, and rebar respectively. This year, shredding (at the library) and electronics recycling (at the Farmers’ Market) are being offered at no charge thanks to our sponsors. Of course we would appreciate any donation you can make to support the library as you take advantage of these offerings. The mission of the Lansdale Public Library is to enrich our community through the encouragement of early literacy, the fostering of lifelong learning, and the celebration of the cultural diversity in our area. A great way to donate would be by purchasing tickets for the basket raffle that will be located at the library. Tickets are $1 each, 6 for $5 or 15 for $10.  Buy your tickets and put them in the bag for the basket you’d like to win. Put all your tickets in one bag or take a chance on several. We’ll select the winners at 1pm at the library.

Many people have asked if this is a hazardous waste drop off.  Unfortunately, we do not have arrangements in place to collect hazardous waste, so please do not bring oils, paints, or other hazardous waste to this collection.  Maybe we will add that component next year. Full details about the library and the Clean and Green Extravaganza are on our website lansdalelibrary.org.
