Clown Threats Made Against North Penn School District

North Penn School DIstrict is the latest area school district to receive online clown-themed threats.

LANSDALE, PA -- The North Penn School District is among several area school districts that has received clown-themed threats over social media, local police confirmed Tuesday.

According to state police, there is little evidence that the clown-related threats of violence are legitimate. But that doesn't mean they haven't spooked local residents and school officials. Towamencin Township Police are nonetheless investigating.

The threats against North Penn were posted on Instagram, police said. Similar threats have been made in the School District of Philadelphia, Tredyffrin-Easttown School District, and elsewhere in the region.

"We are working to find those responsible for the threats. Our department is working hand in hand with other Departments whose jurisdiction contains other schools named in the threatening post," Towamencin police said in a statement Tuesday.

While a 13-year-old girl was found to be responsible for threats made against Philadelphia schools over the weekend, she said that it was just a prank and that she had no intention of actually causing any violence.
