'Comcast Cable' Phone Scam Thieves $500, Towamencin Police Warn

Victims are contacted by someone claiming to be from "Comcast Loyalty Rewards" in this dangerously wily scam.

A phone scam is hitting the area in which a caller claiming to be from Comcast Cable asks for credit card information and charges $500, the Towamencin Township Police are warning.

Victims are contacted by someone claiming to be from “Comcast Loyalty Rewards” saying they need the individual’s credit card information, police said.

Shortly thereafter, $500 is charged to their account.

Upon calling the number back - (866)694-8573 - it appears to be a legimitate Comcast account, but it is not, police said

“As always, we advise residents to remain vigilant and selective about whom you provide sensitive information to over the phone or the computer,” Towamencin police said in a statement.

“Numerous” people have fallen victim to this scam, according to police.

Comcast is aware of the incident and asks any individuals that may have been called by this number to report the incident to the ic3.gov website.

The system helps officials, companies, and other government agencies keep track of similar scams, police said.
