These 28 PA Counties Now Have 'High' COVID Spread: CDC
Most of Pennsylvania is now in the CDC's "high" or "substantial" COVID transmission rate as the latest surge continues.

PENNSYLVANIA — The more contagious delta variant is continuing to cause a surge in cases across Pennsylvania, as 61 of the state's 67 counties are now in the "high" or "substantial" transmission categories, according to the latest statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The state's positivity rate has also seen continuous rise, going from 5.4 to 6 percent over the past week, according to the Department of Health.
Despite this, Pennsylvania is actually doing better than most other parts of the country. It's one of just six states nationwide — along with Maryland, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, and Vermont — that is in the CDC's substantial transmission category; the remainder of the country is considered high.

Places with low vaccination rates continue see high spread of the virus, but many counties in Pennsylvania with high vaccination rates have also seen high transmission.
It comes as Gov. Tom Wolf hailed a "big vaccine milestone" on Monday.

"More than 80% of Pennsylvania adults have received a dose of the COVID vaccine," he shared on Twitter. "Thank you to every Pennsylvanian who helped make it happen."
The CDC says fully vaccinated people should wear masks indoors in public if they live in an area with high or substantial transmission of the virus. Those who aren't fully vaccinated are urged to wear masks in public regardless of the level of transmission.
Transmission levels are determined either by new cases per 100,000 residents in the last seven days or the percentage of coronavirus tests that come back positive; the higher category determines the transmission level.
Here are the full vaccination rates for those 18 and older for the 61 counties with high or substantial spread:
