The Dress

Daily Gratitude

Tuesday, March 17, 2015

Happy St. Paddy’s Day!

Today I am grateful for “the dress”. Many of you have supported me through countless missives about finding and altering “the dress” for my son’s wedding. It has been a rough ride and I know I assaulted you ad-nauseam, but please know how much I appreciate your hanging in there.

Well here it is. “The dress” on the nut-case! There were so many windows, causing so much back-lighting, that the pictures are all a little hot or fuzzy. These are the best I had. Someone else might have better ones, but I don’t know who had cameras. Feel free to post. . .but please be kind.

I am happy to say that “the dress” and I got along quite well, although once I had it steamed at the hotel it got a little long so I had to be careful when I walked. But it didn’t ruche up on my butt and got me through a full night of dancing. . .yes dancing. . .like no one was watching. . .like a fool.

Oh boy did I dance. Everyone danced. Literally everyone. Even my youngest grandson when I bribed him with cash dollars. The dance floor was huge and the DJ great. He did something I had never seen before at a wedding. When the bride and groom entered, they did their first dance right away, before the salad. Then he invited everyone to join them. And they did. It set the tone for a very up-beat, casual, party-hearty atmosphere that held throughout the night. Other special dances and toasts were interspersed between courses of food.

By the time I got the sweaty dress peeled off and hung on the shower rod to air out and dry. . .and got everyone’s bags of junk out of my room by “runners”, Anja & Quinn, I was exhausted. Lying in bed, my body made sure I knew I had danced by shooting painful electrical charges from my head to my back, and my toes to my back, and my back to my arms, and my arms to my knees, and my shoulders to my brain. It was like my nerve endings were a high speed rail line with a short-circuited-on-fire-run-away train on them. Ouchy-mama!

Was it worth it? Oh yes! For sure. Without a doubt. I was fine by morning. Or as fine as I get. Ha-ha! And I am very grateful that “the dress” and I got along just fine.
