Erin Brockovich legal team to hold local public meeting
DON'T DRINK THE WATER! Erin Brockovich's legal team is coming.
The fabled NY law firm of Weitz & Luxenberg will hold the first public meeting on toxic fire fighting Foam in our tap water on Tuesday, May 24th at Upper Moreland High School at 6 PM

As a local authority on firefighting foam in the tapwater I was the guest speaker at a local church safety meeting on what to do. I’ve spent more than forty hours a week for nearly four months concentrating on this issue. The elders tried to argue with me. None had read more than a few newspaper articles.

My opening question to them was about what is really going on with the firefighting foam in our municipal water supply. They had been relying on assurances from their municipal water supplier that the water was now safe to drink. I asked if they were the mayors or supervisors what would happen if they were had to admit that the tap water still contained PFOA’s and PFOS’, the familiar poison in the water.
They dodged, and bobbed and weaved around that mind boggler passing the buck and chanting their trust in the “higher authorities”.

I suggested five-gallon bottled water dispensers and placing them where people normally go for water. They balked at labeling the faucets connected to the tainted municipal water supply. They were committed enough to recommend one bottled water dispenser to the board.
What do you think would happen in the five communities most involved if they had to admit that their water was still poisoned, or it was proved that they’ve been ducking the issue for years?
Judging from what happened in other places that have gone through this, real estate values would plummet, potential buyers and renters would opt for another locale. Restaurants would tank, banks and real estate brokers and other businesses would freak out, and renters would leave.
A famous and experienced Philly Law practice, already gave formal notice of their intent to sue. They too would probably hold a big meeting. The vultures would begin circling. Municipal Water Authorities would waste taxpayers money trying to defend themselves against the inevitable. Boards of supervisors, whose first job is to protect the safety of citizens would also get clobbered. It would be a bloodbath.
Of course we could come together and support Representative Todd Stevens and Bernie O’Neill who originally proposed free bottled water and free blood testing, and all the other elected officials who support them. Governor Wolf didn’t do too well on the first try.
There was free bottled water available, as promised, but they ran out within a few hours. More? "TTThat's all, folks" Some of the advice inside the rooms seemed crafted by Micky Mouse and Elmer Fudd.
Maybe after Erin Brockovich’s legal allies, Weitz & Luxenberg holds the first real public meeting next week, the people will have a chance to talk. The last two meetings in Horsham were tightly controlled by the Navy and the EPA. I attended both and there were a lot of disappointed people. Should be some real fireworks whether or not Brockovich shows up.
There is ample wisdom for what to do when bad things happen. Ignoring it usually ends in disaster. Admitting errors and go right to work on a good solution usually enhances reputations. I think the public has some good ideas on what they want from their elected representatives.
I wonder what this of us think who've been paying their water authorities for poisoned tap water. Do you think we'll get a refund? Potable water accounts for up to 20% of our use. The rest of the stuff that goes down the drain has been migrating to the Delaware River for decades. Oh, and don't eat the fish!
If you think my next car will be a GM, Volkswagen or one with Takata airbags you’ve probably drunk too much foamy Cool-Aid.
p.s.
We had over thirty gallons of donated water and a set of new dispensers at our service last Sunday. Thank God!
