"Spread the Word to End the Word" today at Gwynedd-Mercy Academy

1. Today is the deadline to register for the Montgomery County Senior Games, to be held May 7 to May 11 in the county. You can get a registration form at this link.
2. “Spread the Word to End the Word” is a social campaign to end the use of derogatory terms and labels, especially the word "retarded," presented today at 9 a.m. at , 1345 Sumneytown Pike, Lower Gwynedd. The presentation is by guest speakers Colin Thompson, a senior and football player at Archbishop Wood High School, and his friend John Shulby, a senior at Central Bucks East High School. Shulby has Down Syndrome and the story of their friendship will be discussed.
3. Montgomery County Community College invites the community to its Spring Performing Arts Showcase in the Science Center Theater at the Blue Bell campus at 12:30 p.m. Students will present a one-hour matinee preview of the showcase. Evening performances are Wednesday and Thursday.

4. Today begins National Work Zone Awareness Week in Pennsylvania. This year’s theme is “Don’t Barrel Through Work Zones! Drive Smart to Arrive Alive.”
5. Motorists in Montgomery Township will face short-term lane closures and single-lane traffic patterns this week between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Route 202/Butler Pike between Route 309 and Route 611 for installation of new traffic signals.

Motorists in Upper Gwynedd, Lower Gwynedd and Montgomery townships will face delays this week during construction of the southern terminus of the Route 202 Parkway.
Intermittent lane closures may occur this week from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Route 202 between Swedesford Road and Route 63, and on Route 63 between Stump Road and North Wales Road.
