On this Leap Year Day, Montgomery Township Police begins its Citizens Police Academy and Lansdale wraps up its branding survey

1. begins its Citizens Police Academy tonight and every Wednesday to May 2, 2012 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the township administration building. Classes run for 10 weeks with a graduation ceremony following the final class. To register, contact Deputy Chief Scott Bendig at (215) 362-2300 or email sbendig@montgomerytwp.org.
2. Today is the last day to complete the Lansdale Borough Branding Survey at www.surveymonkey.com/s/CKQQM23. The survey will be used to garner feedback on borough strengths, weaknesses, challenges and opportunities. North Star Destination Strategies will then compile information for the survey.
3. Today is the first meeting of the Ad Hoc Montgomery County Radio Committee, which will discuss the upgrading of the county emergency radio system and present commissioners with the best options to move forward on modernizing the radio system. The committee meets at 1:30 p.m. at the county Public Safety Training Campus (Fire Academy), 1175 Conshohocken Road, Conshohocken. The committee is headed by Commissioner Bruce L. Castor Jr. and is comprised of police, fire, EMS and municipal officials from throughout the county.

4. York Avenue Elementary holds its Reading Is Fundamental-Pirate Day from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
5. Comcast SportsNet anchor Ron Burke will be a keynote speaker today at Pennbrook Middle School as a culmination event of the celebration of Black History Month. Burke will speak about his career and journey of becoming a success in the industry of sports journalism. He will speak to seventh- and eight-graders from 11:20 a.m. to 12 p.m., and to ninth-graders from noon to 12:40 p.m.
