A former Upper Gwynedd Township police officer shot a teenager in the back during an altercation, according to authorities.

Owen Farmer, 45, a nine-year veteran of the force who was honorably discharged in 2009, has been charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment in connection with the incident, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The incident occurred on Saturday, Feb. 18 when Farmer's stepdaughter, 20, was driving on North Wales Road, police said. She passed a black BMW that was driving slowly, and the car began honking at her and flashing its lights, documents state.
