The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement said that the scammers have even go so far as to pay search engines to appear at the top of search results for common key phrases, like "Pennsylvania dog license" or "renew PA dog license."

The website — www.padoglicense.online — has no affiliation with the state.

Residents looking to purchase or renew their licenses should only use the official state website, which is www.licenseyourdogpa.pa.gov.

Officials also advise residents to call their county treasurers office directly, as each county as slightly different processes.

Residents with unlicensed dogs face fines of up to $300 per animal.

An annual license is $8.50 and a lifetime license is $51.50. If your dog is spayed or neutered, the annual fee is $6.50 and lifetime is $31.50.
