Foulkeways to Open “Dream Garden” Memory Garden

The Dream Garden allows seniors with cognitive issues to safely enjoy the outdoors, organizers at the local senior living center said.

GWYNEDD, PA — A senior living center in Montgomery County is debuting a new "Dream Garden" developed for residents with cognitive issues.

The memory garden, located at Foulkeways at Gwynedd, will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The wheelchair and handicapped-accessible space allows seniors to enjoy the outdoors in a safe way without the possibility of any confusion. The bright white sidewalks help individuals with any visual impairment, and the space is easily accessible from the center's "Main Street."

The garden, landscaped with flowers and statues, is open to all residents and family members.

The space is being dedicated in honor of Katherine "Kitty" Baker, a former Foulkeways resident who passed away in 2017, close to her 100th birthday.

"The Dream Garden is a fitting tribute to the generosity and spirit of Kitty Baker," Director of Development Andrea McCabe said in a statement. "It is her living legacy."

Rick and Jane Baker, Kitty's son and daughter law, donated three large statues to be installed in the garden.

Tom McLane, of McLane Associates, was the main architect on the project.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will also celebrate the opening of Abington House North, a new memory care building at Foulkeways. Former local TV anchors Renée Chenault-Fattah and Elleanor Jean Hendley will speak at the event.

Foulkeways is located at 1120 Meetinghouse Road in Gwynedd.
