Harleysville Man, 97, Longtime Auto Executive, Passes Away
John J. Mitchell filled his 97 years with a love of dancing, the Phillies, youth baseball, pinochle, and his family.

HARLEYSVILLE, PA -- John J. Mitchell, 97, of Harleysville, died Saturday, April 22, 2017. He was the beloved husband of the late Catherine A. Mitchell, who died August 12, 2012.
Born December 17, 1919 in Clayton, NJ, he was a son of the late Francis and Bertha (Myers) Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell was employed as an executive with the automotive industry for many years, retiring in 1990. He was an avid dancer, and he loved the Phillies and playing pinochle. Earlier in life, John enjoyed coaching youth baseball.
Survivors include his children, Maria Monras-Sender, Anne Palmer (Brent), John J. Mitchell, Jr., Kathleen Mitchell, and Christina Vleisides (late James); nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and siblings, Charles Mitchell, Richard Mitchell, and Alice Diven.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Mitchell; and sister, Mary Gorski.
Relatives and friends may call after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Corpus Christi Church, 900 Sumneytown Pike, Lansdale, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Norristown. Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Mr. Mitchell’s memory to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 58 Progress Parkway, Maryland Heights, MO 63043 or the Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
