Hatfield Woman Crashes Car, Attacks Officer At The Scene: Cops

An intoxicated woman was arrested after getting into an accident and then attacking the officer who responded to the scene, police said.

HATFIELD, PA — A woman was arrested after getting into an accident and then attacking the officer who responded to the scene, police announced on Thursday.

The incident occurred back on Aug. 20 at around 6:24 p.m. on the 1500 block of Cowpath Road.

Courtenay L. Jernigan, 45, crashed in the area, police said. She was the only person involved.

It's not clear exactly what happened next. Police arrived and began to investigate the scene, where they discovered an open container and a controlled substance.

Ultimately, the investigation led to Jernigan assaulting one of the responding officers, police said.

She was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, driving under the influence, open container, and possession of a controlled substance.

A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 2.
