Injured Towamencin Cop Released From Hospital
Great news: Officer Gibbas is home and recovering.

TOWAMENCIN, PA — Great news: the Towamencin Township police officer injured when he was struck by a car while directing traffic earlier this week has been released from the hospital.
"We are so happy to share that Officer (James) Gibbas has been released from the hospital! He sends a big thank you to everyone who has been sending well wishes and prayers," the police department said in a message posted to social media on Friday afternoon. "While he still faces the tough road to recovery, the support of his family and community will be a source of strength."
Police are continuing their investigation of the Tuesday incident which occurred near the border of Upper Gwynedd and Towamencin townships.

On Tuesday night at around 8:47 p.m., Gibbas responded to a report of a deer being struck by a car on Valley Forge Road near Hunter Hill Road.
Gibbas parked his patrol car behind the vehicle that had struck the deer, and began to direct traffic around the accident, according to the Upper Gwynedd Police Department.

As he was directing traffic, an 89-year-old woman who was headed north on Valley Forge Road struck Gibbas, police said.
The woman remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Gibbas remained conscious and alert after being struck and was taken to Abington Hospital in the wake of the crash, authorities said.
