Inmate Dies At Graterford Prison

​A 68-year-old inmate at Graterford Prison died Sunday after being found unresponsive in his cell, authorities said.

A 68-year-old inmate at Graterford Prison died Sunday after being found unresponsive in his cell, authorities said.

In a statement, prison Superintendent Cynthia Link said Arthur Phillips was found unresponsive in his cell at 2:50 p.m. that day. "Prison staff immediately responded and provided life-saving measures until facility medical personnel arrived," the statement said. Phillips was pronounced dead at 3:20 p.m.

An investigation into his death is ongoing, and the official cause will be determined by a coroner.

His family has been notified.

Phillips was serving a 10-to-20 year sentence for involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person under 16.
