Lansdale AFJROTC Students Earn Community Service Award

North Penn students in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps are giving back to their community.

LANSDALE, PA – The North Penn School District (NPSD) is proud to recognize the North Penn High School (NPHS) Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) for earning the 2015-2016 “Silver Star” Community Service with Excellence Award.

This prestigious award recognizes the top 5% of all AFJROTC and National Defense Cadet Corps (NDCC) units based on community service in support of schools and local communities. The mission of AFJROTC is to “Develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community.”

The award is earned by units with the highest per cadet average of community service hours that are planned and conducted by cadets under the supervision of instructors.

This award also recognizes the personal growth and accomplishments of the cadets, contributions of the instructors as mentors and the support of the school and local community.

The NPHS chapter of the AF JROTC, led by Major Mark Miller, averaged about 34 hours of community service this year per cadet for a total of over 4,000 service hours. It is the highest unit award possible and this is the first time that the NPHS chapter has received this award.
