Lansdale Business Must Pay $598K In Back Wages, Fines: DOL

A local Lansdale business paid temporary employees less than minimum wage, and did not pay for overtime, authorities said.

LANSDALE, PA — A Lansdale business owes its employees hundreds of thousands in back wages and must pay hundreds of thousands more in fines, the U.S. Department of Labor ruled this week.

For several years, Fox Bindery Inc., a commercial printer on Morris Road, used employment agencies to find temporary employees, the Department of Labor said.

An investigation determined that the company did not pay these employees when they worked more than 40 hours per week, and that they intentionally paid them less than $7.25 per hour, the minimum wage.

"The use of temporary staffing agencies by Fox Bindery Inc. does not excuse its responsibility to comply with federal wage and hour regulations," Wage and Hour District Director James Cain said in a statement. "The Wage and Hour Division offers numerous tools to help employers learn about their responsibilities and how to comply with the law."

The violations by the business and owner Henry J. Fox took place from March 2013 to March 2016. A total of 556 current and former employees are owed money.
