Lansdale Native, Korean War Vet, Merck Employee Passes At 80

A 1952 graduate of Lansdale High School, George F. Garner was a huge fan of the North Penn Marching Knights. Rest in peace.

Lansdale, PA -- George F. Garner, formerly of Lansdale George F. Garner, 80, of Sandy Run Road, Benton (Sugarloaf Township), died Saturday, May 28th, 2016 at his residence following a lengthy illness. 

Born December 13, 1935 in Lansdale, Montgomery County, he was a son of the late George L. and Lucretia (Boorse) Garner. Mr. Garner was a 1952 graduate of Lansdale High School and attended Penn State University, Abington Campus.

He faithfully served his country during the Korean War and served four years in the US Navy and the US Air Force. 

Mr. Garner was employed by Merck and Company for 25 years at West Point, Pennsylvania as superintendent of utilities. Following his retirement from Merck he was employed as the maintenance supervisor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansdale for five years.

He retired in 1993. He was of the Lutheran faith and a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansdale. He was also a member of the Fort Ricketts Post 8317 (Benton V. F. W.) as well as the USS Intrepid Association of New York. He was an avid fan of North Penn High School Marching Knights in Lansdale. 

Surviving are his four children: Steven G. Garner and his wife, Julie of Green Lane, PA; Michael J. Garner and his wife, Michelle, of Telford, PA; Patricia A. Schembri and her husband, Joseph, of Harleysville, PA; Douglas J. Garner, of Rocky Mount, NC; Also surviving are ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Wisler, of Fountain Hill, PA and his caregiver and loyal friend, Robert W. Clauser, Jr. 

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Charles, Harry and Allen Garner and by two sisters: Blanche Andrichyn and Elizabeth Reynolds. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 4th, 2016 at 10 AM at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (S. R. 487) with Pastor Gary DeSanto, Stillwater Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Gabriel’s Cemetery with full military honors conducted by a joint Veteran’s group.
