Lansdale PD Launches Mental Health Co-Responder Program

Local police say the new program will help them with de-escalation and behavioral health intervention for vulnerable residents.

LANSDALE, PA — The Lansdale Police Department is implementing a unique mental health policing initiative thanks to a specially new officer and a major state grant.

The department has partnered with Merakey Behavioral Health for their new co-responder program. Alexis Moyer, an experienced social services worker, has stepped in as Lansdale's official mental health co-responder.

"Alexis’ greatest strength as a co-responder is her unique ability to bridge the communication gap which police officers often face and develop the trusting relationships necessary with those she serves," the department said in a statement. "Over the next year Alexis will be able to spend more time with people, building those relationships which are often the key to connecting the consumers with the treatment they need but who were initially unwilling to seek out."
