Lansdale Police End 'Let It Grow' Facial Hair Charity Campaign
Ungroomed law enforcement officers raised over $1,300 for the cause.

Ungroomed law enforcement officers in Lansdale raised over $1,300 by not shaving.
That’s the total after the conclusion of the month of November, during which officers declined to shave as part of the “Let it Grow” charity campaign to raise money for worthy causes.
The beneficiary is the Variety Club Camp & Developmental Center in Worcester. The Variety club works with children with special needs, aiming to “establish independence and self-confidence” in children with physical and developmental handicaps.

“This is the second year in which the mayor and I have gotten behind this fundraiser and allowed our officers the opportunity to raise money for a worthwhile charity while having some fun doing it,” said Lansdale Police Chief Robert McDyre. “Police Departments have traditionally been modeled after the military and as such, have adopted the military’s grooming standards which do not allow facial hair such as beards, long sideburns etc. For the month of November we’re throwing this rule out the window and I’d encourage the other police departments in Montgomery County to do the same.”
An “ugliest beard“ contest will take place on Tuesday night at the Smokehouse Tavern at 6:30. The public is invited to attend and to vote on their choice,
