LANSDALE, PA -- A little bit of police policy is being shaved away for the month of November in Lansdale.

The beneficiary is the Variety Club Camp & Developmental Center in Worcester. The Variety club works with children with special needs, aiming to “establish independence and self-confidence” in children with physical and developmental handicaps.
“This is the third year in which the Mayor and I have gotten behind this fundraiser and allowed our officers the opportunity to raise money for a worthwhile charity while having some fun doing it," said Chief Robert McDyre. "Police Departments have traditionally been modeled after the military and as such, have adopted the military’s grooming standards which do not allow facial hair such as beards, long sideburns etc. For the month of November we’re throwing this rule out the window and I’d encourage the other police departments in Montgomery County to do the same for charity.”
