Marching Knights Host Pancake Breakfast at Applebee's

With recent budget cuts, fundraising is more important than ever

On Saturday morning, the North Penn Marching Knights held their first-ever 's Pancake Breakfast fundraiser, aiming to generate funds to cover various expenses for the marching band's upcoming school year.

Tickets cost $7 at the door, but slightly discounted advanced purchases were made available prior to the fundraiser.

"The kids went out and had a great presale, selling 184 tickets beforehand," said Susan Lynham, who volunteered as chairperson for the event.  "We're really pleased with the support that was given."

The marching band raises money throughout the year, hosting everything from band competitions to car washes and candle sales.  All money generated goes to paying for staffers who work with the band, equipment for shows, and various other costs incurred throughout the year.

In addition to the money the band can raise, the North Penn School District supplies the band with a yearly stipend, but as Lynham points out "along with everything else, it's been cut down."

For this event, Applebee's prepared the food while Marching Knight band members happily served more than 200 hungry supporters, generating more than $1,300 in the process.

"Everyone that has come has said they've had a great time, and the kids are having a lot of fun as well," said Lynham, adding that she personally enjoys helping out.

"I'm an alumni parent, and though I sent my daughter off to college yesterday, I told them I would chair the event because it's so much fun.  I'm having a great time with this," said Lynham.  "When you take intravenous feedings of marching band, you end up living with it for the rest of your life."

Lynham stated that the group's next fundraiser will be a car wash in two weeks, though she didn't know the location off-hand.
