Montco Man Broke Baby's Ribs, Skull Trying To Relieve Gas: DA

A Montgomery County man broke the ribs and skull of a 3-week-old baby while trying to relieve her gas, the DA says.

LANSDALE, PA — A Montgomery County father broke the ribs and skull of his 3-week-old baby while trying to relieve her gas, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office said. He admitted to being high on heroin during that day, although he said he wasn't during the incident, police said.

Luis Bonnano, 34, of Harleysville, has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child in connection to the incident, according to the DA.

On Sept. 12 of last year, Bonnano said his daughter had been suffering from bad gas, the DA said. She was only eating a small amount and heard a strange clicking noise when she was breathing. So Bonnano allegedly did between 10-20 chest compressions on her, according to a criminal complaint.

Bonnano later told police he had been high on heroin that day, which he said he took for pain in his back. He was adamant that he was not high when the incident with his daughter occurred, the complaint states.

When staff at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia noticed the injuries, Bonnano's wife told them what he had done, the complaint states. And when staff told investigators and they in turn confronted Bonnano with the information, he began to cry, according to the complaint. He said he did not blame his wife for telling the hospital staff what had happened.
