North Penn Grad Makes Hollywood Debut In 'The Big Sick'

North Penn's Kuhoo Verma has a role in 'The Big Sick', a feature film hitting theatres nationwide this week.

LANSDALE, PA — A North Penn grad is taking big steps in her acting career, as she has landed a role in "The Big Sick," a feature film hitting theaters nationwide this week.

Kuhoo Verma plays one of the women arranged to marry the main character, a Pakistani-American man who struggles to tell his traditional family he has an American girlfriend.

The movie, produced by Judd Apatow, also stars Ray Romano, Zoe Kazan, Kumail Nanjiani, and Holly Hunter.

In an interview with Philly.com, Verma said that although she has a short role, it was a rewarding one.

“I must have done something pretty great in my last life to be this lucky, so much of this field is just luck. It just doesn’t happen this easily. I’ve definitely put in the work, but you don’t expect things to happen this way. It’s like magic.”

She also said that her North Penn theater experience was crucial in preparing her for her career.

"They have such an amazing theater program. I was lucky to be a part of that school. If I was anywhere else, I don’t think I’d be where I am now."
