North Penn HS Students Advance To Nationals In Business

North Penn students are doing great in the business leadership competition.

From North Penn School District: The Pennsylvania Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) recently held its annual State Leadership Conference in Hershey, PA and 50 North Penn High School (NPHS) FBLA team members attended to compete in various business-related events.

More than 4,000 students from all across the state of Pennsylvania came together in Hershey, PA for three days in April to compete and attend business and leadership focused workshops.

Once again, NPHS did an outstanding job at the FBLA State Conference and Competitions. Led by NPHS Business teacher Mrs. Linda Westerlund, the NPHS FBLA Chapter as a whole was recognized for having the 4th largest chapter membership in the state, earned 5th place in the Local Chapter Annual Business Report, 5th place in the State Project Top Fundraising Chapters category, 6th place in the Community Service Project category and 6th place in the Outstanding Chapter Award category. NPHS teachers Mr. Ed Bovell and Mr. Glenn Westerlund, Jr. also traveled with the group, acting as assistant advisors and mentors for the students.

NPHS Junior Logan Dubil was elected to the position of President of the PA FBLA for the 2018-2019 school year and received the endorsement from PA FBLA to run for National FBLA President. NPHS senior and North Penn TV Production Career Study student Jake Loburak was nominated by the NPHS FBLA advisors to attend the FBLA State Conference for an internship opportunity. Jake was then selected by the PA FBLA to attend to conference and serve as an intern for Cybis Production Company.

At the FBLA State Competition, the NPHS FBLA team had 20 students place in the top 10 in their events and four students qualify to compete at the National Conference in Baltimore, MD June 28 through July 1.

  • Mobile Application Development: Team of Neelay Vellingker, Tejas Priyadarshi and Chris Seiler, 2nd Place
  • Global Business: Team of Stephanie Zhang, Shravan Asthana and Rahul Joglekar, 2nd Place
  • Emerging Business Issues: Divya Sood, 9th Place
  • Healthcare Administration: Charis Ma, 3rd Place
  • Impromptu Speaking: Maria Medoff, 7th Place
  • Insurance and Risk Management: Clare Dentner, 5th Place
  • Cyber Security: Ben Curlee, 6th Place
  • Introduction to Financial Math: Sam Lee, 7th Place
  • Marketing: Team of Thomas Luu, Nick Neu and Shak Rahman, 6th Place

FBLA is the largest career student organization in the world. Each year, FBLA helps over 230,000 members prepare for careers in business. FBLA’s National Awards Program, commonly called competitive events, recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. Through state-based competition at the spring State Leadership Conferences, members compete in events that test their business knowledge and skills. Top winners in each state are eligible to compete for honors at the National Leadership Conference which will be held in Baltimore, MD this summer.
