North Penn Science, Tech Students Excel at Local Competitions

North Penn science and technology received several awards at local competitions.

LANSDALE, PA -- North Penn High School Science, Technology and Research Students (STARS) students have been recognized for their recent, excellent performance at two local competitions, according to a recent news release from the district.

NPHS STARS is a group of students who develop, research and run experiments on topics in various science disciplines. Students work independently of the student curriculum. Research projects are presented at local, regional and international competitions.

Seven students were recognized for their participation in the Montgomery County Research Competition. Anoop Bhat took 1st place in Physics and earned the Air Force Science Achievement Award. Corson Chao was awarded 2nd place in Environmental Science and earned the Professional Soil Scientists Award. Pradyot Yadav was awarded 1st place in Engineering and took home the IEEE Engineering Award.

Stephanie Zhang received 2nd place in Earth and Space and earned the Women Geologist Society Award. Arianne Fitzgerald received 1st place in Zoology, Joey Shibata took 1st place in Medicine and Health and Tejas Priyadarshi earned the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers Award.

All 1st and 2nd place winners at the Montgomery County Research Competition advanced to the Delaware Valley Tri-State Science Fair on March 29th.

A hearty congratulations goes out to Glen Niemen who represented North Penn at the Delaware Valley Science Council Exams. Glen competed against over 200 other top senior students from 25 other schools in the tri-state area. He was awarded the Delaware Valley Science Council Science Achievement Award with a cash prize in recognition of his high scores.

Joey Shibata received the Pennsylvania Society for Biomedical Research Award High School Division. Corson Chao took first place in 11th grade Engineering, a scholarship from Harrisburg University and a scholarship from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.

Stephanie Zhang took 3rd place in 10th grade Earth and Space Science. Anoop Bhat received the American Society of Naval Engineers Award, Philadelphia Society for Coatings Technology Award and the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers Award.

Pradyot Yadav won Honorable Mention in 10th grade Engineering Category, the American Society of Naval Engineers Award, the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association Award, the Engineers Club of Philadelphia Award, the Institute Of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Award, the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers Award and the United States Navy and Marine Corps Award.
